Kingman, Arizona, Route 66

We're currently driving Route 66 (Highway 40), the Mother Road, on our way to Grass Valley, CA and a new adventure in our lives. It was at one time the most famous road in the United States, especially after becoming the main route chosen by those moving west to try to create a new beginning after the great Depression during the Dust Bowl. These days, we're told, more people are moving inland than to the west coast or east coast. Exactly the opposite directions and yet the reasons are ironically quite similar.

We're staying tonight in Kingman, AZ which looks like it has seen better days. Lots of empty storefronts but it still hangs on to its glory days as one of the main tourist points on the Mother Road.
