Mama Love and the Worldwide Shortage of Jojoba

As you may have noticed, the price for Mama Love in the 2 oz size has gone up dramatically and I have added a 1 ounce size to try to make the increase less painful. The new prices are due to the skyrocketing price of certified organic jojoba oil which has seen severe crop failures for the past two years worldwide. Supplies seem to have at least somewhat returned although they are limited so I plan to keep the formulation of my products the same despite the increase in price. The choice has not been made without great deliberation.

Jojoba oil has unique characteristics I have not found in any alternative. It is closest to the natural oils (sebum) secreted by human skin and, for that reason, tends to be nonallergenic. It is antimicrobial, stays stable in most temperatures, and will not go rancid so preservatives are not necessary, especially with the use of essential oils which also have antiseptic effects. Jojoba oil is easily absorbed by your skin making it ideal for delivering the healing benefits of flower essences and essential oils. That also means a little Mama Love goes a long way. (If you find your skin too oily after using it you’re using way too much!)

All my formulas are now made entirely from 100% organically grown and ethically wildcrafted botanical ingredients. Enjoy them, knowing they are all spiritually guided and Reiki-infused, handmade, and designed to be the most beneficial product I can make.

Is 70% of Your Immune System Actually in Your Gut?

Have you been seeing those commercials in which someone emphatically states that 70% of your immune system is in your gut and that's why you should eat probiotics, especially those found in yogurt? Is it true?

I was particularly interested in this because I had an ulcer when I was only 8 years old and suffered with both upper and lower GI tract disorders long into my thirties. I actually healed myself through emotional/spiritual healing techniques, which is why I've had a fascination with the interaction of mind, body and spirit to this day. Edward Bach, the physician who invented flower essence therapy, was also an immunologist. He was exploring the connection between intestinal flora (bacteria, etc.) and immune health long before the yogurt companies discovered this marketing ploy. He discovered that specific emotional states were associated with certain overgrowths of bacteria in the gut. In fact, it was his great success in creating effective vaccines and later homeopathic nosodes using intestinal flora that led to his breakthroughs in flower essence work.

I did some research on the web today and found scientific sources that make sense of the yogurt company claims. The fact is that the immune system is distributed in multiple places in the body including the digestive tract. But your intestines are long—about 25 feet combined—and so they comprise about 70% of the immune system by virtue of size alone. And our digestive system depends on a healthy balance of intestinal flora to do its job. When an overgrowth of yeast, for instance, occurs we get a variety of symptoms that can make us quite ill. The idea behind the yogurt company claims is that stress and antibiotics and other factors disrupt the ecosystem of the gut and intentionally eating yogurt with certain active cultures has been proven to restore the balance.

Relieve Stress and Anxiety with Mama Love Flower Essence Aromatherapy

I made a new batch of Releasing Worry and Fear tonight. It's one of my favorite formulas and by far my most popular. We live in such a stressed out society. I'd say it's also a stressful time but, honestly, this formula has always outsold all my others.

I use three of the original Bach flower remedies in this one: Larch, White Chestnut and Rock Rose.

White Chestnut is for people who can't seem to stop fretting. They rehearse the same worried thoughts over and over, churning over what could go wrong, what they should do, what if, what if? White Chestnut allows them to stop the obsessive ruminating and have a healthier more peaceful perspective.

The person who would benefit most from Rock Rose takes this level of fear and ups it to the nth degree. Prone to panic, stressed into anxiety, the Rock Rose state of mind is all about survival: how am I going to survive? OMG, what am I going to do?!!! They are facing an emergency, either internally or in their real external circumstances and they need courage to step into their power and face whatever is coming next. But more than that, they need a core of supreme calm, to be centered and in their body instead of jumping out of their skins. Rock Rose does that. Combined with Larch it allows a being to go where they might not have dared to go before.

Larch is a wonderful flower essence that I happen to use a lot. I think of it as the ultimate self-confidence remedy. It's for people who feel afraid to even try. They fear the worst and see only the negative possibilities. Larch helps a person walk forward with a bolder step and more positive point of view.

Add this to a wonderful aromatherapy combination of Sandalwood, Angelica, Ylang Ylang and Rosewood that smells awesome. Sandalwood and Angelica are both considered to be spiritual oils that bring a person to a much more peaceful and grounded place. They are used to release fear and increase feelings of trust and protection. Ylang Ylang is a very sweet floral used for inducing a state of calm and relaxation. I always find it a bit intoxicating when I'm putting together a formula. It has a delightful effect. Rosewood also has an uplifting quality that counters fear and depression.

I infuse every batch I make with Reiki and tonight was no exception. I intend that the Reiki be used for the highest benefit of all those who use this formula. My hands got very hot tonight when I was doing it. That doesn't tend to happen with all my remedies. It's my assumption that the people who choose this formula have a greater need for the healing it can provide.

A Balm for Troubled Times

As we closed out one of the most intense years I can remember in terms of bad news, stress and strife on the world scene I found myself wishing for a flower essence aromatherapy formula specifically designed to help people, like myself, who have felt a bit raw from it all. I got caught up in the pain of the children and teachers massacred in Connecticut and just could not get the thought of what it must have been like for the parents and friends and families to go through that out of my head. Going through it together would have been the only comfort, I think. And that it could be a world-changing event in terms of opening hearts to what's needed now. The young woman brutally raped and murdered in India along with the public outcry there brought that home to me, too. And then there was the enormously divided civil war-like political campaign that we've been subject to in the United States. A lot of things have been deeply upsetting to me — there are days when my Facebook newsfeed reads more like a litany of all that's scary and wrong in the world and it takes diligence to look for the stories of courage and hope and change that is there as well.

But, of course, I do have a Mama Love formula specifically made for this purpose. I made it for coping with a personal crisis in my life but I knew very well back then that it was inspired by two special flower essences that were not readily available to the public at the time: Splendid Mariposa Lily and Green Cross Gentian. Those were only offered as research essences from the Flower Essence Society back in 2003 for flower essence practitioners who wanted to participate in experimenting with them. But I was absolutely convinced that I wanted to make them available in a healing formula as soon as I knew of their existence.

Splendid Mariposa Lily is for those whose need for comfort is so great it would have to come from the Great Mother herself. The Flower Essence Society describes the pattern of imbalance it addresses as "Orphan state of consciousness as a root condition of humanity, soul pain and feelings of abandonment due to world trauma and warfare; divisions in the human family due to race, religion, nation, class, ecological disaster or warfare."

Green Cross Gentian is for courage, hope and great resolve for healing and world service despite enormous setbacks and challenges. The Flower Essence Society describes the pattern of imbalance addressed as "Feelings of overwhelm, despair and defeat with regard to the condition of the earth...due to natural or man-made catastrophe."

I was guided to add Star of Bethlehem and Self-Heal, too. Star of Bethlehem is the famous essence used in Edward Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is for shock or trauma with a deep need for spiritual comfort and healing. Self-Heal inspires healing from the inside out. It helps people reach into their own inner reserves, and not just external sources, for healing and help. It adds the last ingredient for full recovery: a renewed sense of inner empowerment which is essential in learning to stand on your own feet again.

Add to this a most wonderful blend of Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Angelica and Rosewood— a potent and luscious-smelling set of essential oils for easing emotional grief and pain. They were especially chosen to help you feel loved, safe, grounded and protected. It's just what a person needs to heal from a deep pain and trauma of any kind. I make this formula in batches and then channel Reiki, healing life force energy, into each batch to take the healing up an even higher notch. I never originally intended to start a flower essence aromatherapy business with multiple formulas at all.... although I was inspired to much later on. I originally just wanted to bring Mama Love for Troubled Times into the world because I believed it would be the most valuable formula of all.
