Wish Herbal Tea Tasted More Like Tea?

Blackberry Leaf
Then you're like me! Sometimes I really long for a cup of conventional black tea. But I have to be careful about caffeine, especially if I add sweetener. It makes me very spacey and that's no fun. And I happen to love honey with a touch of cream or milk in my black tea.

I've tried many alternatives -- Rooibos and Honeybush is a favorite. But it always felt like there was something missing. And finally I discovered what it probably was: tannins. That is a key ingredient that makes black tea taste like tea!

There are herbal ingredients that have that needed quality I so desire. Blackberry Leaf is my favorite and it is a favorite ingredient in commercial herbal tea blends as well. Red Raspberry Leaf is also a nice choice. Both can be used on their own as a gentle black tea substitute.

Some people, however, like to avoid tannins. They can interfere with the absorption of some prescription drugs and vitamins. And Blackberry and Red Raspberry Leaf still miss another element I associate with black tea that I'd call .... um .... a low tone. A deep note? Earthiness, perhaps? It's hard to describe but you miss it when it's gone!

Chicory Root
For that, I like to add a touch of Chicory. Chicory is better known as a coffee substitute or additive. It's a particular favorite in New Orleans where I grew to love it. I add some to many of my blends:

Not Joe Mama (coffee alternative)
Dandelion Detox
Carob Mocha Mint

It adds just the right amount of earthiness with a touch of welcome sweetness as well.

It's fun to make herb tea blends! I love doing it. If you make your herb tea tasty you might not miss black tea at all.

The Essence of Desert Yucca

In the world of Flower Essence Therapy, Yucca assists in the ability to hold on to your life purpose in times of the greatest adversity. The structure of the plant gives a clue as to what it might be used for. This video was created using one of my own photographs that I then altered in a number of different ways to help make aspects of that structure more obvious.

Buy My Latest Work on Fine Art America

It just occurred to me that I have not been showing my latest artwork on this blog. I've been SO busy I haven't been posting here at all.  And that's ironic because I've literally been creating new work every day.

My most recent series is experimental abstract photography based mostly on plant forms. One of my recent favorites is this one I simply call "Reeds." It's a multi-layered piece showing the same scene from two different points of view and angles. I wanted most of all to capture the feeling of movement in the scene as it was the rustling of the wind through the plants that captured my attention in the first place. But grass and grass-like plants have been a fascination for me in my photography for quite some time. This is just a new extension of the same theme.

Organic Red Clover is Back in Stock

I just replenished my stock of organic Red Clover. Come and get it!

Red Clover is great for stress reduction and women's reproductive health.

I've been drinking an herb tea blend with Red Clover, Chamomile, Nettles, and Pink Rose Petals every day for more than a week now. SO relaxing before going to bed. I make a big pot and sometimes drink a cup or two earlier in the day as well.

My recipe per pot:

Equal parts of everything
Put the blend in a tea infuser
Add hot water
Let steep 5-10 minutes

I don't add sweetener or milk or dairy substitute to this. The Rose Petals and Red Clover add a hint of sweetness, but not much, so follow your own taste on this.

I usually carry all the ingredients for this blend in my Etsy shop but I'm out of Rose Petals right now.
